Civil War Era Bardou & Son Paris Brass Field Binoculars & Leather Case GA9658
Made by Bardou & Son of Paris, these field binoculars are in great condition for their age. All lenses are in fantastic condition and free from chips, cracks, etc and both sides present clear and sharp images.
Each side has a sliding sun shade which are used to shade any sun or water view. The center focus knob is made of gutta-percha and grooved. There is a crack in one section (pictured). The adjustment knob turns freely 360 degrees. Directly below shows another makers mark stamped in brass that reads "G & B Trademark". The exterior is made from brass and leather. The leather section remains intact with flaking. The front end sun shades slide forward and backward with ease. Discoloration is seen on both sides. Makers mark is shown at the top end on each side.
The original leather case is in fair condition. The exterior shows flaking and stains however there are no rips or tares. The front strap is a bit loose however still buckles. Interior top end has velvet type material with the lower part inner leather.
Fully extended, measurement is 11" long. (not counting sliding sun shades) with the lenses measuring 2 1/2" in diameter.
