Initially used during the Mexican-American War by the US Cavalry.  Production ceased around the mid 1850's and they were then used by the Union Cavalry during the Civil War.  McClellan carried this sword at the front and many of these swords were then also used by the Confederacy.

Existing leather grip shows the waring of the original leather, however it is wrapped with the original brass wire.  Both Ricasso's are unmarked.  The blade shows stains on both sides.  Front of hand guard shows remains of silver paint from the GAR.

Measurements: Overall length - 42" with a 35" long blade and weighs roughly 2 1/2 pounds.
Note: Materials, handling, shipping, insurance and postage included with price.
