1860's Victorian Gas Lamp Lighter Torch & Valve Key T.W. Houchin #620 NY GS00360
This brass & wood gas torch valve was used to light gas lamps. It combines a valve-key for turning on the gas and the tubes held wax-covered wicks for lighting the lamp (not included). The length of the tool would make it easy to reach for lighting.
One end has a turned handle and the upper section is a tubular brass. The wicks used were just as long as the tube and was moved along as it burned down from usage. Opposite end is a shaped valve which was used to turn the gas on or off. Makers mark with i.d. is also stamped on both sides at the top of the valve.
This is just one example from thousands of vintage lighting collectibles we have in our shop!
