This is a complete set from Newton Fielding published in 1853 by R. Ackermann at his Sporting Gallery located at 191 Regent Street.

These are engraved plates with an aquatint process, which is an intaglio printmaking technique, a variant of etching that produces areas of tone rather than lines.  Each one was created on woven paper.  All have a narrow black wooden frame with a glass front.

Each plate has a title and description at the bottom center explaining the stages of a Cock Fight

Plate 1: "Set Too" When Cock Meets Cock, Then Comes The Tug of War
Plate 2: "Fight"  Each tugging to be the victor, breast to breast.  Yet neither conqueror nor conquered.
Plate 3: "Throat"  O mighty Caeser, dost thou lie so low?
Plate 4: "Knock Down"  Lo now my glory, smeared in dust & blood.
Plate 5: "Recovery"  And each keen sinew braced, the storm of war Ruffling o'er his nervous body frowns.
Plate 6: "Death"  Dead__for my life__ Even so;__My tale is told.

Each plate measures 7 7/8" wide and 5 7/8" tall centered on the woven paper.  With frame, measurements are: 14 1/8" wide by 11 5/8" tall.

Condition:  There is some damage to on the woven paper surrounding the plates which include discoloration and moisture spots.  The plates themselves are intact. Please see all pictures.
