1912 I.W. Harper Whiskey Framed Oleograph "The Parting Gift" by R.W Compton #Parting gift
“The Parting Gift” by R. W. Crompton
This is an original advertisement from 1912 for the Bernheim Distilling (distillery) Company of Kentucky which produced I.W. Harper Whiskey in the early 1900's. It is an Oleograph which is a chromolithograph printed in oil colors to imitate the appearance of an oil painting. It is a rare example of an original Oleograph by R.W. Compton. An identical piece has appeared in the comprehensive book entitled 'The Motor Car in Art' by John J. Zolomij.
The scene created on canvas, depicts a newly married couple about to leave on their honeymoon in an open touring car. The best man is shown handing the groom a bottle of Harper Whiskey.
There is crazing throughout the print. Set in it's original wood frame and is wired on the back for hanging.
