1920's Art Deco Sculpture by Gyula J. Maugsch "Awakening" Nude Female GA9372
Gyula (Julius) Maugsch is considered as one of the most prolific sculptor, painter, medalist, teacher and a top porcelain designer during the Hungarian Art Deco Era. His theme was mostly female nudes and animal arts. Several of his iconic sculptures are found in the main public places in Budapest.
This sculpture is of a nude woman and titled "Awakening". The media used to create this piece is different than what he generally used to create. It is made from solid bronze and is nickel plated. The other difference is the style of the bottom base which the woman stands on - again, a different take on his general base design as this one has a sharp Art Deco vibe of a 3 tiered platform with diamond argyle design.
Condition: There are a few blemishes and indents in some areas of the sculpture and all are pictured.
Measurements: Top to bottom - 13 1/4" tall x 8 1/2" wide x 6 1/4" deep. The model is 12" tall and 4 1/2" wide (measured at the elbows). Weight: 13 pounds.
