Used for the main steering during WWII and at the helm station on the flying bridge of liberty ships.  Constructed of solid bronze & red brass and weighing approximately 55 pounds.  The brass grips are shaped like bowling pins and were attached separately to the wheel.  The center shaft hole has a keyed slot to prevent slippage.  One of the spokes is marked with "SGA 81" in raised lettering and pictured.  Excellent condition with no chips, breaks or cracks.

Measurements:  42" round grip to grip.  Inner diameter - 30"
